Both missing & extra layers, V5 compared to V4?

Previewing (and printing) the same Fusion 360 model in V5.0.1 compared to V4.1.2 yields both extra layers and missing layers in the V5 GCODE. Thankfully I can still use V4, although that completely defeats the purpose of a paid upgrade, is frustrating, and has wasted many hours of printer time & filament.

Octoprint GCODE previewer shows the extra and missing layers in the V5 GCODE.

There are very definitely aspects of V5 that I like very much - but after this much time between 4 & 5 it should be light years better.

GCODE files available for anyone who is interested in having a look. No supports required, BTW, prints perfectly fine in PETG without.

Suggestions anyone?

Can you post your .factory file? It'll be easier to see what's going on with respect to the additional/missing layers.

Cheers,

Hopefully attaching the file will work...

And thanks, appreciate ANY help as I really want V5 to work.

Looks fine right up until you hit prepare to print, at which point the errors show up, and persist through final print.

Re: Both missing & extra layers, V5 compared to V4?

Thanks for providing the .factory file.

I fired up my copy of v4 and the model sliced as you'd expect.

Moving onto v5.0.1, first thing that I'd noticed is that your model isn't manifold (a completely solid model). This is what's leading to your
issues with the missing layers at the bottom of the print (the red line on the image below indicates where the non-manifold
break is... and this applies to both sides of the model).

In order to get v5.0.1 to "correctly" slice the model as you'd expect, you need to go to the 'Advanced' tab in your process and
change the model slicing/repair behaviour. I've indicated the settings that need to be changed in order to achieve what you're
looking for.

Ultimately to correct the model, you'll have to go back to Fusion360 and combine all of the bodies in your model to make it a
valid solid (manifold), export the STL then slice it again in v5.0.1.

Hope this helps,

D.

Re: Both missing & extra layers, V5 compared to V4?

Excellent!! Thank you very much - I'll try that this afternoon.

Perhaps if V5 is more of a "perfectionist", a bit pickier about input, that would explain why V4 printed the model but V5 wouldn't.

Any thoughts on why the extra layer, filling in the sort-of "donut holes" (looking down from the top), is there?. There's probably an engineering term for the characteristic.

The "extra layers" as you put it were being filled in by the slicer as that "gap" in your model met or exceeded the minimum bridging
requirements that were set in the slicer (if you preview the sliced model and turn on the "feature type" function, you'll see that the
gaps show up as bright yellow indicating bridging has taken place).

Once I knew what to look for, I could immediately see what I had done wrong. You were absolutely correct.

Again, thank you.
