Manual STL multicolor printing print starts too high

I do not have a multicolor printer but I tried to do some multicolor prints by simply generating multiple sliced STL files and then I print one and I alter the end script to leave the hotbed on then I start the next file after I change the color.

The problem I'm running into is that it always starts too high and I have to grab the z-axis lead screw and give it a little twist to bring the nozzle back down

This is 100% consistent which leads me to believe that I'm doing something wrong that I have some sort of a setting or configuration set that's causing it to start too high

I would for example have a park printing with a 0.8 mm nozzle and 0.3 mm layers and I will print two layers which is 0.6 mm

The next STL will be a part that starts at 0.6 mm and print two more layers on top of that except it looks like it's starting at more like 0.8 or 0.9 mm almost like it's one layer too high for some reason.

Before I start manually telling it to print lower in the slicer is there a setting that I could have programmed in my setting somewhere that would consistently cause to do this?
