[FIXED] Bridging Process Fail?

Hi,

I am new to simplify 3d so I may be missing something.

Problem:
Simplify 3d does not seem to be generating bridges where is should (see Photos). And I can't seem to find a button to Detect Bridges.

Question:
Am i missing something or does simplify3d just suck at this at the moment?

Re: Bridging Process Fail?

check your bridging setup on the other tab. there is a unsupported area setting. I don't do much bridging and am new to the software, but I would imagine that the area you are bridging falls below this level so it doesn't consider it to need a bridge. just a guess though.

Thanks Tim,

I did not notice those settings.

Changing the min area did help it to recognise it as a bridging area, but I still don't think it's going to work.

For some reason it's chosen to bridge across to an unsupported perimeter (that was not recognised as a bridge) instead of between two solid walls.

I have seen other topics where people have raised the issue of perimeters not being accounted into the bridging calculations and I'm sure it's being looked at... Seems like a high priority fix to me.

Thanks again

Re: Bridging Process Fail?

Just wanted to add a quick update to this old topic to let everyone know that Version 4.0 included quite a few new bridging options.
1) A new bridging algorithm was added which typically chooses a much better initial direction for the bridging fill. I tested it with the model you posted above, and the default direction is much better.
2) If you want to customize the direction of the bridging, you can also do this by going to the Other tab of your process settings and enabling the "use fixed bridging angle" option.
3) There is also a new option that will let you customize the exact settings that are used for the perimeters of the bridging regions. This can also be enabled on the bridging tab by checking the "apply bridging settings to perimeters" options.

In case it helps, there are more pictures of these changes at the bottom of the page below:

Thanks for the great suggestions!
