Estimated time and Mass off by factor of 2. precisely.

My estimated print time is off and so is the predicted mass of the part.

whats interesting is that its off by exactly half. and I mean exactly. PRECISELY to two decimal places.

that's too much of a coincidence so I figure their must be a setting or value I can change to make it correct?

a 4hr 8 minute print takes 8hr 16min

a 6.86 gram print comes out actually at 13.72 PRECISELY double.

what setting or value do I need to change to make these values predict correctly?

this is using simplify 3d with a makerbot replicator mini.

you can easily set the filament density in your profile but you cannot change the print time. how much that is off will vary depending on the print. s3d can only take a wild guess at the time. every printer is different and usually comes down to your firmware settings for acceleration. if your fairly consistent at the amount the time is off then it should be easy for you to figure out.

I don't agree. the print time is precisely double and makerbot desktop's predictions are to the minute accurate.

now maybe they simply don't have a value we can "adjust" ???

for some prints I can increase the print speed with impunity (vase prints) the 2:1 does not remain in that case. its still massively under predicts but not by the same value.

at least now I know I can simply double whatever it shows and be within 5 minutes of accurate.

Density I should be able to simply double it right? I will try it and see what it does.

hopefully the dev team can add a setting to let us "fudge" the prediciton time by adding a multiplier or something. its very important to me. I only have the one printer and many prints take 5 8 10 14 hours to print. I need to know how long. for example I will intentionally select a victum to print that will finish 30 minutes before I wake up so that when I wake up I can then start another print to process while I am at work. this lets me get 2 or 3 prints done a day. sucks when I come down in the morning and realize. shit. 3 or 4 more hours so its going to sit here all day doing nothing Grrrrr :-)

You have to remember that makerbot desktop was made for the makerbot only. S3d has to work with tons of different printers. Again, how much its off depends on your firmware settings and how many travel moves are in the print. with all that said, your right. There should be a multiplier or something that we can use to atleast get it somewhere in the neighborhood. I asked for this 2 years ago.

I too would like to request the simplify team to either give us a way of inputting our firmware acceleration values to better predict the time or allow us a manual override percentage adjustment at the bare minimum. I know there is argument to whether this method would even be accurate however I know that when I use RepHost and Slic3r with a percentage adjustment my prints were all close. When I say close, I mean an average of say 30 seconds on a small part to maximum of 5 minutes on a 6 hour print. This is sufficient for us to use as an "Approximate" build time. Simplify3D is a good piece of software and I am a happy customer but it definitely falls very short of the opensource competeition in some aspects.
