S3D can't see or print the spokes on this model

Hi,

I have been going in circles on a model with thin spokes.

In order to remove any possible error in the model, I recreated it from scratch and now it's even worse.

I have attached a screenshot of S3D when it drops the model to the build plate, the preview (which shows it does not see all of the spokes) and a photo of a partial print (that I stopped).

On the print, it sees a couple of the spokes but begins filling in the open areas.

I changed the setting from 100% infill to 0% and it did the same.

On the previous models it did a somewhat mediocre print but did not find the spokes in the center.

The nozzle is .5 and the spokes and rings are 1mm.

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

Run the model through the cloud model repair service. I think it's full of issues that S3D can't work with.

So my issue is that I have fine tuned my model to the one with the wide open areas.

I do create it by merging a bunch of individual parts.

But S3D did successfully print earlier versions so I'm puzzled as to why it now cannot print the larger version.

The one that was most successful had higher walls on the circles, does that come into play with how S3D slices a model?

Does there have to be some minimum vertical height?

S3D did highlight virtually all of the model when I ran "identify self-intersecting surfaces"

And possibly I was having the same issue when I was working with smaller but still thin spokes

This prints just fine but I wanted to open up the spaces and that's when I went off the rails.

When you merge all of these 3D solids together in your CAD program, you have to make sure to properly boolean them together. You can just make them all overlap and self-intersect, since that will create a bad mesh when you export it.
