Specify Process start/stop by layer number

It would be nice to have the option of specifying change in processes by layer number. I mostly use start/stop for changing fill specifications... specifically concentric on the first layer only and then reverting to rectilinear for the balance. As it stands, I need to specify the start/stop in mm, which requires a change any time I change the z height. But all I really need/want to do is say, "print the first layer with this fill pattern no matter what the z resolution is"
Of course this would also greatly benefit from a preview mode that told me what layer number I was currently looking at. Or if not the layer number, at least the height in mm. It's hard to customize processes by height without that kind of feedback... others have asked for this feature already, but it doesn't seem to have gained any traction with the developers. <sigh>

Re: Specify Process start/stop by layer number

You can see the layer number in preview mode in the bottom left of the window, if you move your end-slider around.

"Previewing file from line 1 to xxxxx (layer 0 to YYYY)"

where YYYY is the number of the layer....

Re: Specify Process start/stop by layer number

I also wanted this as its easier than whipping out a calculator 9 times for my 9 processes to calculate height and then I realized this is a BAD idea.

the reason is simple. IF YOU CHANGE the layer height of the model your processes will now NO LONGER be at the height you intended them to be at.

if you say add a process at layer 200 to do X and your printing at .2mm

that means this process will occur in meat space at 40mm

but if you decide I want to print the model at .1mm layer height now that process is at 20mm in meat space.

see the problem?

what we need is for the slice preview to ALSO list build height so we don't have to run the numbers ourselves and this build height should be the height "of that layer" ie the same we would get if we took layer number and multiplied by layer height.

this is especially important once you start doing multiple processes at MULTIPLE RESOLUTIONS because now the "conversion" from layer number to "meat space height" can get very complicated.
