Simplify3D knows exactly how much filament it's used on each print. What I'd like to be able to do is to assign a print (even a failed print) to a specific spool of filament, so that each print can be automatically deducted from the available filament on that spool.
I envision it as a in-app database, where I can add named spools of filament ("White 1.75 #2", "Gold 3.0", whatever), and then assign a print job to that spool. As the print takes place, the used filament length is deducted from that spool's total. The software can then recommend which spool to use, and warn me if a spool doesn't have enough filament to complete a job.
I'm tracking it now manually with Excel, but it'd be sweet if the software itself could track it.
I know the total calculation will still be a bit hand-waving, because the software can't deduct from drippage, bad trimming of the spool, etc. But it WOULD ensure that I don't forget to assign a big job to a spool, and think I've got more available filament than I do.
