Blobbing?

New to Simplify3D here - not having much luck so far...

After tweaking various settings, I'm still getting weird "blobbing" (don't know if that's the right term) on my prints.

Here's an example (click the images for much larger versions):
Image

Look at the one on the left side. These two fan shrouds were both printed back to back on the same printer, same filament and same temperatures. The one on the left was done using Simplify3D, the one on the right with a different slicer.

Any idea what would cause this?

Also, here's the bottom of the same print. Note that Simplify3D didn't fill the bottom properly and left gaps/holes:

Again, Simplify3D is left, other slicer on the right.

Thanks!

Re: Blobbing?

Are your feedrates the same? Maybe try tweaking the "extrusion multiplier". From the bottom view I would saw bump it up a little... Maybe 1.1 and work your way down. Just a guess...

Re: Blobbing?

Try to change the "Coast at End" value on the Extruder-Tab. My experience is that 0.2 or 0.4 reduces the blobs.

Re: Blobbing?

I have found that this is an issue due to the extrusion width and nozzle diameter settings. If Simplify can't "fit" your extrusion width into that space, it simply doesn't. See if you have the extrusion width set to "automatic" on the extruder settings. Try changing it to manual and reduce the width. It solved the problem for me.

Let me know. I'm curious if this is the same issue.

Re: Blobbing?

Changed my Coast to End to 0.2 (as suggested above) and it worked perfectly. Also, if you have old PLA that has soaked up a lot of moisture from the atmosphere from not properly being stored, it seems to give the same blobbing issues. Moisture expands and causes even more pressure in the extruder.
