4.0 is out!

I just got prompted to download version 4.0! Where are the release notes?

EDIT: Looking through quickly, there is a variable process wizard now. Some rearrangement of process settings (Speed section)

Re: 4.0 is out!

I wonder if we'll get some sort of expansion on the "and many more" in the new features post.

4.0 Does not open previous models upon restart as 3.1 did. Is that intended?

Re: 4.0 is out!

On the face of it, the new version looks really similar to the old one. The interface is pretty much the same everywhere, but some options has been moved around a little, and some new options has been added. I guess a lot of what's really new is buried within the slicing engine itself. The install file is substantially larger, so there may be a lot of new code in there.

v4 also has support for reading 3mf-files now. Most of us probably still uses stl, but more format support is always good.

I will admit that I am a bit disappointed that there is no dynamic layer height, but thin wall behaviour is at least much improved. And bridging. And a few of the other popular requests, even though great many requests are also not included.

I installed the new version in parallell to the old version, but they aren't fully separate installs. The new version is installed in a new folder, but both versions reads and writes to the same main section in the registry, so I guess they might step on each other's toes. At the very least, one should probably not run both versions simultaneously, but that's conjecture on my part.

Would be nice if someone from S3D could comment on this. Is it OK to use both v3 and v4 on the same machine, or can that cause issues?

Not seeing this. I have the same behaviour as before, it opens the previously loaded model when I start it.

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a long list of all the new features here:
https://www.simplify3d.com/software/rel ... ion-4-0-0/

The site it a bit slow right now, so I'm guessing there are a lot of people reading it :D

I'm not seeing this. It still reloads all of my old models just like it did before. You might want to go to Tools > Options (or Simplify3D > Preferences if you're using macOS) and make sure that "Save and restore application state" is enabled.

Weird, it's now working as before. Thanks for the replies.
