Max STL File size?

I have an STL file that is 2,000,000 elements and whenever I try and 'prepare to print' S3D gets part of the way through the process and then crashes.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I checked on my task manager and the process was using around 2GB of memory - can the usable memory be adjusted? I have 32GB on my machine.

Can you post a sample file here? What OS are you using?

If it says it is using 2 what did it say for "free" memory? If memory usage is maxed out with 32g then you have other issues!

Re: Max STL File size?

I have an STL file that is over 2,000,000 triangles and it either crashes the software or I get a "not responding " warning and everything is slow and basically useless.

Re: Max STL File size?

I just loaded several 10-20 million triangle models on my laptop just fine. The software is certainly capable of loading files that big. Above around 50M the 3D view starts to get pretty slow, but that is expected.

I would think it could handle 2 million triangles with ease. What computer do you have? What's the RAM and graphics card?
