Hi, I know there is an issue with people losing FFF/Process settings etc. Mostly through user misunderstanding of how Process settings work. A few suggestions that may help if they can be implemented.
I'm not saying these are all valid, they are just ideas.
01: When a user loads a new model the user is prompted to save the current process settings and create a new blank work space. Or leave the current work space alone and load the model. This at least forces the user to save their process settings.
02: After generating the Gcode when the user goes to export the code they are prompted to save the process file also. Or export the current settings as a fff profile.
03: Add a save and load process buttons in the processes panel. This adds a visual reminder to save and load the settings. Currently these functions are in the file menu or the which is why I think people forget to use them.
04: Create a Save and Load "Model/Job" feature.
The problem is a matter of terminology. Most users don't think in terms of Process or Factory files. I know this somewhat goes against they way Simplify is currently set up to be used. Currently you have to save and load both the the Factory file and the the Process separately if you want to repeat an old print. Or Load the .Stl file and then the process. While this does give you a lot of options it becomes a problem when a client comes to you and wants another print of the same model you did 6 months ago. Did you remember to save the Factory file and the process settings? Did you export the FFF profile for that specific print??
if it was combined into one "Job" it would make it easier for the user.
05: Change "Factory file" to "Layout". The Factory file term may be causing confusion because when you load it your just loading in the model and the way it was scaled, position etc. Not any of the process settings for it.
06: Utility to read a Gcode and create a process from that Gcode. Maybe you don't remember the settings but you know what Gcode worked and you want to use it again. It won't load the model just the printer settings.
These are just ideas, they may not all be good ideas but just something to think about.
