variable retraction

Like to see a variable retraction option.

If the travel path is less than 5 cm, the retraction will be 1mm
If it is between 5 cm and 10cm, it is 2mm.

etc.

Now I can only choose the best retraction on the largest travel path, which will give a perfect print, but the speed is slowed down due to the retraction. When the retraction is lowered for small moves, this will improve the printing speed.

Yes, would be nice !

Re: variable retraction

I can see some value there, but the potential time savings is pretty minimal.

Re: variable retraction

I don't think about time saving...
I think about better print quality.

Not if you print an object with many tiny 'poles' for instance. the extra 4mm retraction for every mm move takes a long time.
And every mm 4mm retraction and again 4mm feeding not only takes a lot of time, the extrusion is also not optimal in this example.

Re: variable retraction

Yes please! It would be awesome if the same functionality would be implemented for coast and wipe. Maybe set a minimum and maximum retraction distance and the extrusion distances required for min and max retract and calculate a percentage based on that.

Example:

Min retract: 1mm
Min extrusion length before retract: 2mm
Max retract: 5mm
Extrusion length before max retract: 20mm

Coast: 1mm - 5mm
Wipe: 0mm - 5mm
Extra restart distance: 0mm - -0.2mm

So when only 2mm are extruded it will retract 1mm, coast for 1mm and it won't wipe at all. When it extrudes more than 20mm it retracts 5mm, coasts for 5mm and wipes 5mm.

This would be the better solution for the thread I posted yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5205

Re: variable retraction

The option: Only retract again if the extrusion before was more then 0,2mm will be an improvement.
